Niall talks to Peadar Tóibín About The Refugee Crisis In Ireland
Niall Boylan
Niall talks to Peadar Tóibín Leader of Aontú about Ireland’s immigration crises. After resigning from Sinn Féin in November 2018, Tóibín announced that he would attempt to establish an alternative political party. On 28 January 2019, he announced that the name of his new political party would be Aontú, Irish for “unity and consent”.
Ireland is currently in crises as refugees from all corners of the world land on our doorstep. This along with the existing housing crisis has created a huge problem of homelessness, with refugees sleeping all over the cities in tents and towns. Also many are being accommodated in hotels all over the country at great expense to the state. The government refuses to give into the will of the majority of people and will not cap the numbers allowed to enter the country. This in turn is creating peaceful and hostile protests all over the country. The government’s only response is to call objectors or protesters, right wing extremists.
