No Babies, No Future? Ireland’s Population Time Bomb!

Is Ireland Facing a Population Crisis, and Is Immigration Really the Answer?

Ireland’s birth rate has fallen well below the level needed to replace its population, raising serious questions about the country’s economic, social and cultural future.

Following RTÉ’s documentary Ireland’s Population Crash, Niall Boylan is joined by journalist, podcaster and founder of the Iona Institute, David Quinn, to discuss why Irish people are having fewer children and what the long-term consequences could be.

Are young couples choosing not to have children, or have soaring house prices, childcare costs and the cost of living made starting a family increasingly unaffordable?

With an ageing population and fewer young people entering the workforce, some argue that immigration is essential to keep the economy growing, fund pensions and support public services. Others question whether relying on immigration to compensate for falling birth rates is a sustainable solution and what it could mean for Ireland’s national identity, culture and future.

Has Ireland become a country where people simply can’t afford to have children? Should the Government do more to encourage Irish families to have children rather than relying on immigration? And are we heading towards a demographic crisis that politicians are afraid to confront?

Niall and David explore these questions and more in a thought-provoking discussion about the future of Ireland and the generations to come.
