Equality, Integration, Inclusion and Diversity? BY NUALA NOLAN
Dear Editor,
Community Grants or funding from Governments and Local Authority bodies in recent times have to satisfy the aspirations of Equality, Integration, Diversity and Inclusion.
Is this not a futile exercise given that these terms are contradictory in themselves and actually cause division?
First of all, we know that Equality, even under the law is a myth seeing that those with the biggest pockets can hire the best lawyers.
Then there are those who are the well paid, and those who are not so well paid, for various reasons such as skills and qualifications.
This gap that grows on a daily basis despite main stream Equality rhetoric.
Sadly, those who preach Equality are those who like the pigs in George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” believe that “Some animals are more equal than others” as they live in privilege.
This was true of the top Bolshevik leadership in the time of Lenin when they moved into the luxury of the Kremlin while the ordinary Russian starved.
In today’s Irish society we have become ethnically mixed with some choosing do not integrate.
The reason being that they want to hold on to their specific culture.
Yet at the same time can they expect their specific wants be funded by the tax payer.
An equal society is a myth unless at best seen under the Scandinavian Form of Socialism where everyone pays high taxes for universal supports for all.
Sincerely,
Nuala Nolan
