Mexico’s president blamed “a lack of love” in American families for the deadly fentanyl crisis ravaging the U.S.
President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said in a Friday news conference that the deterioration of values in American households has caused the drug crisis that claimed 70,000 American lives last year.
“There is a lot of disintegration of families, there is a lot of individualism, there is a lack of love, of brotherhood, of hugs and embraces,” López Obrador said, according to the Associated Press. “That is why they (U.S. officials) should be dedicating funds to address the causes.”

Local authorities and state governments in the northeast U.S. are asking the federal government for more help as they deal with an influx of illegal immigrants crossing from Canada into the U.S.
Between October 1, 2022, and February 28 of this year, around 2,000 Mexican migrants illegally crossed the Swanton Sector, a 24,000-square-mile stretch of border between Canada, New York, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Authorities recorded only 200 such crossings during the same time period of the previous year, NBC News reported, and the spike is causing alarm among Americans who live near the northern border.
“People are scared,” a Champlain County, New York, resident said. “It’s the fear of the unknown. They’re [neighbors] worried about their safety, because they don’t know these people.”

While speaking at the annual Friends of Ireland Luncheon with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar Friday afternoon, Biden made a series of jokes stereotyping Irish people as drunks and criminals. Meta Verified was rolled out on the company’s social media platforms Friday. Instead of giving out blue checkmarks to accounts because the user is a prominent public figure, the checkmark is open to any user as a means to verify that the account is authentic. The system is similar to Twitter Blue, the subscription service unveiled by Elon Musk after he took over Twitter.
“The meaning of the verified badge has been updated to represent authenticity,” Instagram said on its help website. “An Instagram account with a verified badge next to its name now means that Instagram has confirmed that it is the authentic presence for that person or brand.
